Free-layout Marble Maze
A customizable marble maze that you can laser cut
Built for my kids during a marble maze phase, this physical puzzle board lets you freely swap modular wall pieces into custom tracks for rolling marbles.
Instead of just sharing a static CAD file, I released a web generator that programmatically produces cut-ready SVGs based on custom board sizes, grid dimensions, and wall heights configured directly in the browser.
Parametric Design Through Code
Moving beyond typical static file sharing, the goal was to let anyone generate custom designs matching their specific material sizes and difficulty preferences right in the browser.
- Live Parametric Controls: Sliders configure material thickness, sheet width, grid count, wall height, and channel width based on marble diameter.
- Cutting Optimization: Automatically nests components and handles shared-line cutting to minimize laser run-times and material scrap.
- Modular Reconfigurability: With a grid of cross-shaped slots on the baseboard, children can continuously pull out and re-slot wall segments to invent and solve their own layouts.
A uniquely versatile project that shares the parametric generation logic rather than a fixed maze design, while giving children endless freedom to customize the physical tracks themselves.
