Mean vs Median

An interactive web tool that calculates and plots a hypothetical distribution in real time matching whatever mean and median you specify.

Why I Built It

People continually default to the "mean" (average) when discussing highly skewed metrics like income, net worth, or savings, where the "median" is far more meaningful.

Explaining with equations that "a few massive outliers skew the average" rarely sinks in intuitively. I wanted people to see for themselves how wildly unnatural a distribution becomes when you pull the mean far away from the median using sliders.

Push the mean higher, and you instantly watch a razor-thin tail stretch far to the right, dragging the whole distribution along with it.
