Self-sorting LEGO box
A laser-cut storage box that automatically sorts LEGO bricks by size
When building with LEGO, tiny bricks inevitably sink to the bottom of the container, making them frustratingly difficult to find. To solve this, I used a laser cutter to prototype a storage box that automatically sorts bricks by size.
The nested box features a laser-cut grid on the upper tier. Tossing in bricks and shaking the box gently lets small pieces drop through the slots into the lower bin, leaving larger blocks separated on top.
Prototyped in cardboard to calibrate the grid dimensions, it uses a simple physical sieve mechanism to eliminate the annoyance of digging for small parts.
