Book Hook AI

An app that scans an open book using a tablet camera, analyzes the content with AI, and automatically generates an eye-catching "shelf talker" (promotional blurb) to hook readers.

Why I Built It

I set up an encyclopedia corner in our living room and tried leaving books open to random pages each day, hoping the kids would stop and read. When that still didn't quite grab their attention, I built this as an extra hook to spark their curiosity.

How It Works

Snap a photo of an open page. The page is fed into AI, and it generates a punchy, bookstore-style teaser directly on screen.

For example:

• "Witness the Maternal Love of Flounder! What Surprising Behavior Happens Right After Hatching?" Hard not to read on.

• "Ford's First Car Had a Gas Engine on Bicycle Wheels?!" Naturally works with English reference books too.

• "What Are Operators? Who Was Heisenberg?" Turns dry textbooks into enticing teasers.

• "Why Does Soy Sauce Last 120 Days? The Surprising Reason" As long as there's readable text, even food packaging descriptions work.

The kids seem to stop and look far more often now. I plan to keep it running as an experiment for a bit more.
