By perforating a black acrylic board with countless microscopic holes using a laser cutter and shining light from behind, it captures a nighttime cityscape where urban lighting traces the silhouettes of the continents.
How It Works
- Laser-Cut Perforations: Piercing the panel with microscopic laser-cut holes preserves the finest details of light, down to the subtle scatter across regional cities and towns.
- Minimal Backlight Assembly: A backlight source and diffusion sheet are layered inside the frame, allowing delicate pinpricks of light passing through the masking board to render the night cityscape and starfield.
When you dim the lights in the room, serene points of light appear to float against the wall. Unlike an electronic display screen, the physical light leaking through the micro-apertures produces an organic, tactile texture.
